Schertz Real Estate
Schertz, nestled between the suburb cities of Selma, Cibolo and Converse, is especially popular among military families for its proximity to Randolph Air Force Base and its easy commute along I-10 to Fort Sam and the San Antonio Military Medical Center. Originally settled along the Cibolo Creek by the Schertz family from Alsace Lorraine, France, it long flourished as a rural farming community with cotton and corn its primary crops. While the outskirts still harbor producing corn and cotton fields, many of these have been built up with family-friendly, master planned communities with pools, parks, playgrounds and walking trails. Neighborhoods with homeowners’ associations are the norm here today and children are often seen walking or biking home from school. Famed Schertz Parkway with its tree-lined, wide sidewalks and low speed limit is a frequent venue for bicyclists and charity runs. With a population of 37,000, is located on the Cibolo Creek in Guadalupe County, the smaller, less populated county neighbor to Bexar County, home to San Antonio. While the original downtown still is home to charming mid-century craftsman cottages, newer ranch style and two story traditional homes are common options with the median home price being lower than the regional median at just less than $180,000 so many homebuyers choose Schertz to get more for their money.
